each of the six works is unique
the awards respond to omvf’s 2026 theme, hauntopolis, where ghosts of the past haunt both the city and its online archives.
the awards are part certificate of honour, part sculpture: three-dimensional objects screen printed onto surplus wood, their image remaining stubbornly flat.
alongside ink and wood, the works draw on architectural photographs of oulu uploaded to wikipedia under a cc0 license in the 2000s and 2010s by the user estormiz, cropped more tightly than the originals and halftoned for screen printing.
the 2026 pumpeli awards suggest that the built environment and web servers are kin to one another, both layered and, at times, even transcendent spaces, where the most interesting traces of the past are often found by wandering around and by chance.
